Planning has started!

Today in our commissioning unit lecture we learnt about how we should plan before we start the shooting of our documentary. We learnt about the basic things such as what our hypothesis is going to be, what elements we are looking to including, the sequences we would like to shoot and what we would like to have in our script. Here are some of these things for Millennium Mum:

Hypothesis:
This is going to be a revelation documentary about the life of a teen Mum and how her and her childs life has turned out. We will want to be asking questions such as, does being a teen mum make you a bad parent? Does your child automatically have a poorer quality of life just because his mother was so young when she had him?

Elements to the documentary:
  • Archive footage such as baby videos of Jordon and photos of Sam growing up.
  • Interviews with close family (mum, dad, nan, sam herself etc)
  • Interviews with a teacher who knew Sam when she was preganant, asking how she felt this affected Sam whilst pregnant at school.
  • Narration throughout
  • Character driven
We are now going to concentrate on how we will do our sequences for the documentary.

  1. May be worth thinking about taking Sam back to her school for an actuality based interview? Does not have to be inside the school - could be the journey there and standing outside?
